NRC Confirms Theft Of Clips On Delta Rail Track
The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a delay in departure at the Agbarho railway station due to vandalism of a section of the rail track.
An eyewitness had called the attention of the NRC to the vandalised section, noting that criminals had carted away clips off the rail track, capable of endangering lives.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident on Monday through a series of footage on X (formerly Twitter), which showed trackmen at work.
The criminals carted away 24 clips off the rail track, thus preventing transportation on the busy railway station for those travelling from Ujevwu through Agbarho to Itakpe to Kogi State.
A post by Opeifa on X read, “Following the online report of vandalism of the track at Agbarho. The railway track and safety officers were dispatched early this morning to verify the report and do the needful for the safe passage of the train.
“The men discovered the vandalised portion of the track at km 250 Agbarho – Okpara Section.
“The stolen clips have been replaced, and the track has been confirmed safe for the passage of trains.
“Consequently, WITS 01 of date 12th May 2025 will experience a 40-minute delay in departure.
“Please bear with us as we regret the inconvenience this may cause our passengers. We are poised to serve you better.”
The NRC has consistently reported the removal of rail clips and sleepers, losing over 150,000 rail clips due to vandalism between 2022 and 2023.
Earlier in March, Opiefa raised the alarm over the proliferation of vandalised iron materials from rail tracks, describing it as a menace of serious concern.
He said both the Police Commissioner of the Railway Command and the Commandant of the Nigeria Safety and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of the Railway Command have been directed to speedily arraign and prosecute any suspects found vandalising its rail tracks.
