Shooting Stars head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, says it is important for his team to start the new campaign with a win, DAILY POST reports.

The Ibadan club will host Bayelsa United in their opening fixture of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, on Sunday.

It will be Aweroro’s first official game in charge of the five-time NPFL champions.

The former Ikorodu City gaffer challenged his players to give their best in the encounter.

”We need to get maximum points, and if possible, score plenty of goals. But the most important thing is to secure the win. We can’t take this game for granted—we have to come out strong and give our best,” Aweroro told Shooting Stars media.

The 2025/26 NPFL season started on Friday with holders Remo Stars and Rivers United battling to a thrilling 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
