Newcomers Ikorodu City won their first game in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season, thrashing Bendel Insurance 3-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.

Rivio Ayemwenre directed Waliu Ojetoye’s cross into the net three minutes after the break.

Ikorodu City kept prodding and got the second on 56 minutes through Kelechi Onwe.

Toyeeb Ajeyigbe added the third goal 14 minutes from time.

At the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, holders Rangers lost 1-0 to hard-fighting Sunshine Stars.

Stephen Chukwude’s goal on 43 minutes was enough to seal a third win of the campaign for Sunshine Stars.

The win lifted the Owena Waves into fourth position on the table.

The remaining eight matchday six games will be played across different centres on Sunday.
