NPFL: Eguma Blames Poor Officiating For Bayelsa United Draw

Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma has expressed his disappointment at the officiating in the team’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Bayelsa United in a matchday 30 encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League clash.

The People’s Elephant dropped two points in Aba, and the experienced coach has heaped the blame on the match officials.

The hosts took an early lead thanks to Ekene Awazie before Ifeanyi Ogba restored parity for Bayelsa United going into the break.

Both sides failed to add to their tally in the second half but the centre referee denied Enyimba two clear penalty calls, to the frustration of the home fans, and the coaching crew.

The former Rivers United manager lamented the referee’s failure to award Enyimba the two penalties in the game.

Eguma said: “I really feel disappointed because this was a game we worked hard and planned to win,” Eguma lamented. “But it’s part of football—sometimes you plan and get a different result.

“I think we controlled the first half, created chances, and took one. They had theirs and also converted.

“The biggest talking point was the two penalty calls that I believe should have been given. I’m really disappointed.

“But I don’t want to say too much to avoid being sanctioned.”

Enyimba have struggled for consistency this season with the nine-time champions sitting lowly in the eighth position with 43 points from 30 matches.

Eguma is confident that they will bounce back to winning ways when they take on Remo Stars on Thursday.

He said: “We have to regroup and prepare well. It’s a different ball game, but we’ll do our best to get a positive result in Ikenne. At this stage, every game is crucial, and we must fight for every point,”

Enyimba have recorded 10 wins, 13 draws and seven defeats in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season.
