Novak Djokovic Granted Wildcard For Geneva Open Appearance

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has picked up a wildcard slot to participate in the Geneva Open in Switzerland in a bid to regain his form ahead of the French Open.

Djokovic, who is targeting his 25th Grand Slam title, pulled out of the Rome Open to focus on his preparations for Roland Garros.

He has lost his last three matches following early exits at the Monte Carlo and the Madrid Open as he struggled for form.

He has now decided to participate in the Geneva Open in order to spend more time on clay before competing in the French Open.

Djokovic has struggled in the new season; he pulled out of a semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev after losing the first set in the Australian Open in January.

He fell short of his desire to win his 25th career Grand Slam when he lost to Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final.

The world number has won 12 of his 19 matches this season, and he will be hoping to impress in Switzerland.

The Geneva Open event begins on 18 May, while the French Open will kick off on May 25.

Djokovic will continue his chase for his 100th tour-level title in Geneva, where Top 10 stars Taylor Fritz, Grigor Dimitrov, Karen Khachanov, and Casper Ruud are also set to compete.

Wildcards in tennis are usually awarded by a tournament’s organisers, and they are usually given to local players, young and upcoming players, players returning from injuries, winners of wildcard tournaments, and recipients of wildcard swaps.
