The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Haruna Suleiman, believed to be behind several kidnappings and extortion cases, including repeated abductions of a Kogi-based businessman.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Wednesday, Suleiman was arrested by operatives of the Scorpion Squad on August 3 around 7:00 p.m. at Giri Junction in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

His arrest followed sustained surveillance and digital tracking by the police.

Suleiman, originally from Danja Local Government Area in Katsina State but living in Giri, Abuja, was linked to the multiple kidnappings of 79-year-old Alhaji Haruna Isiaku from Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to Makama, the elderly victim was kidnapped several times between December 2023 and January 2025 and was forced to pay a total of ₦21 million in ransom.

The breakdown included ₦2 million in 2023, ₦7 million and ₦5 million in 2024, and ₦7 million in January 2025.

“The gang struck again on August 1, demanding an additional ₦10 million and threatening to kidnap the victim once more,” Makama wrote.

“The police, after receiving the report, advised the businessman to play along. The gang initially asked that the ransom be dropped off at Obajana in Kogi State, but the victim convinced them to provide an account number for a digital transfer.

“The suspects then sent a POS account number, which the police traced to Suleiman, leading to his arrest,” Makama wrote.

Suleiman has reportedly confessed to the crime and also revealed the names of other gang members.
