Northern Group Warns Against Plot To Pit Tinubu Against Shettima

A political advocacy group known as Northern Vanguard (NV) has cautioned against what it described as a calculated effort by certain political actors to sow discord between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.

A statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the group’s president, Edward Gulak, criticised what he called an “orchestrated campaign of discord” aimed at disrupting the unity within the presidency, and urged those behind it to desist.

Gulak described the relationship between Tinubu and Shettima as one built on “uncommon loyalty, harmony, and shared vision,” insisting that attempts to break that bond are not only mischievous but deeply unpatriotic.

He stressed that the Vice President has remained focused on his duties and understands the country’s pressing challenges in areas such as security, economic development, and regional stability.

He further warned that Nigerians would strongly resist any attempts to destabilise the current administration, saying the citizens are more interested in results than in political distractions.

According to him, the Tinubu-Shettima partnership offers a rare opportunity for long-term national progress.

Gulak accused certain political elements without providing any name of being bitter over the cordial relationship between the President and his Vice, contrasting it with the strained dynamics of previous administrations.

“We are aware that some political merchants, driven by envy and personal bitterness, are hoping to manufacture a rift between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, in order to destabilise this administration ahead of 2027,” he said.

“These rogue elements are disappointed that the President and his Vice are working in seamless unity, and unlike what played out between former President Obasanjo and his then Vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the relationship between Tinubu and Shettima has remained unshakeable, fortified by mutual respect and purpose,” he added.

It urged the political class to focus on nation-building rather than sowing division.

“This government needs unity, not distractions. Nigerians are watching, and history won’t be kind to those who try to sabotage progress,” Gulak warned.
