No Formal Bid From Bale-led Consortium To Buy Cardiff, Says Supporters Trust
Cardiff City Supporters Trust has revealed that there is no former bid from Gareth Bale-led consortium to buy the club despite the former Real Madrid star openly expressing interest.
Bale confirmed on Monday that he is part of a group that is interested in buying his hometown club, Cardiff City.
He was recently part of a U.S. consortium that was looking to acquire Plymouth Argyle before the deal failed.
However, the club’s supporters said the group did not follow up their proposal with an official bid in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement read: “As a result of a conversation the Trust has had with the club at board level, it seems that no formal bid has been made for the club to consider.
“Rather, a notice of intention to make such an offer was delivered directly to owner Vincent Tan who seems to have had little interest in it and, in the absence of an actual bid, the matter was not progressed further.
“The board has confirmed that no bid has been received and that one is not anticipated.”
Bale said it would be a dream come true to be part of the club’s ownership.
He said: “We are interested in getting Cardiff. It’s my home club, it’s where I grew up and my uncle used to play for them.
“To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.
“It [Cardiff] is a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.
“I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.
“We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.”
Bale was born in Cardiff but he started his career at Southampton’s youth academy before spells at Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and LAFC.
Cardiff suffered relegation to League One from the Championship at the end of the 2024-25 season after finishing bottom of the table with 44 points from 46 matches.
