No Defection, PDP Still My Political Home – Ex-UK Women Leader
A former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the United Kingdom, Yeye Animashaun Abimbola Abdul, has reaffirmed her unwavering loyalty and commitment to the PDP, dismissing speculations of defection to another party.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abimbola reiterated her allegiance to the party both at home and in the diaspora, emphasising that her political journey has been rooted in the ideals of democracy and selfless service.
“I remain committed to the PDP. It is my political home, and I have no plans whatsoever to defect,” she declared.
Abimbola, who has spent over two decades actively participating in PDP activities across the UK and Nigeria, said it was necessary to make her position known amid rising political tensions and misinformation within the party.
“As a public servant and political leader, it is imperative to inform the public—especially my followers—of my stance on political developments within the PDP and Nigeria at large,” she noted.
“This is important so everyone is guided and not misled by false narratives.”
Abimbola also addressed claims regarding financial dealings within the party, stating categorically that she has never misappropriated party funds or accepted financial benefits from aspirants during her time in office.
“Be guided also that I did not eat PDP or PDP aspirants’ penny for over 22 years of my active participation in PDP political activities in the UK and Nigeria,” she said.
“The records are there in the UK Chapter of the PDP, Alimosho Local Government Area, and Lagos State.”
On the contrary, she claimed to have made personal sacrifices for the growth of the party during her tenure.
“Rather, I have had reasons—as a Democrat and PDP member—to spend my hard-earned money for the development of the PDP in the UK Chapter, both as a member and as a leader.”
Abimbola recounted her service as the PDP National Women Leader in the Diaspora, saying she served with dedication and impartiality.
“I served meritoriously and selflessly without prejudice to our diversities, both at home and in the diaspora. The records are there for anyone who wishes to verify,” she added.
Since returning to Nigeria, she said she has remained active within the Lagos State PDP, particularly in Alimosho Local Government Area, where she continues to support party initiatives and humanitarian efforts.
Addressing the internal dynamics of the PDP, Abimbola expressed confidence in the current leadership structure as recognised during the party’s recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
“I remain loyal and committed to the PDP leadership as considered legitimate at the 99th NEC meeting held at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, on May 27, 2025,” she said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Abimbola hinted at her intention to support a PDP presidential aspirant she believes is best positioned to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I have made up my mind to announce my choice of PDP presidential candidate, whom I shall support—as usual—in a month’s time,” she revealed.
“This decision will be based on informed political judgement as we approach the 2027 presidential primaries and elections.”
