Nnamdi Azikiwe University Gets New Acting Vice-Chancellor

The Federal Government has announced the selection of Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, effective May 19, 2025.
A statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, stated that the ministry is satisfied that the selection process was conducted in line with due process followed due process, as outlined in the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2003.
As Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Arinze-Umobi will oversee the university’s day-to-day administration, coordinate academic and administrative activities, and ensure the institution’s effective functioning.
According to the statement, her appointment is expected to last no more than six months or until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed.
“Her appointment, in line with Section 5(14) of the Act, shall not exceed six months or until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed, whichever comes first,” the statement said.
The Ministry expressed confidence in Arinze-Umobi’s ability to provide stable and result-oriented leadership during this transitional period.
“The Ministry acknowledges this appointment as a reflection of adherence to statutory governance procedures and expresses confidence in Professor Arinze-Umobi’s ability to provide stable and result-oriented leadership during this transitional period,” it said.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding transparency, university autonomy, and merit-based leadership in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
