NIS Boosting Border Security With Advanced Technology — CG
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has stated that the service is committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders through advanced technology and innovative security measures.
Nandap disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State on Wednesday, where she assured the public of enhanced border safety.
Nandap stated that the NIS is leveraging cutting-edge technology to secure the nation’s land borders, which she noted are now safer than before.
She said, “We are doing everything possible to ensure our borders are safe because the safety of Nigerians is our priority.
“We are leveraging technology, innovations, and other laudable initiatives, and I can assure you that our borders are now safer than before.”
She also revealed plans to revitalize the Departments of Immigration (DIOs) in local government areas, with a focus on increasing the security of Nigerians, particularly those in rural regions.
Nandap noted that her visit coincided with a conference organised by the NIS, which provided an opportunity for the service to assess its operations and explore strategies to enhance service delivery.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Samuel Jatau, commended the NIS’s choice of Plateau for the conference.
“This simply means that Plateau is peaceful and people can come and set up their businesses here anytime without fear,” he said.
The governor further urged the NIS to increase the number of passport offices in Plateau, noting that the current facilities are insufficient to meet public demand.
He called on the service to support the state government in its bid to identify and repatriate the growing number of illegal immigrants in the state.
