Nigeria’s healthcare in shambles – VP, Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kasim Shettima has admitted that the country’s health sector is experiencing a worse moment despite having the potential to attract $4.8 billion in investment.

According to NAN, Shettima disclosed this at the recent Commissioning of Sahad Hospital in Abuja.

Shettima called on all Nigerians to unite to address the challenges facing the health sector to save it from total collapse.

“Our health sector calls upon us all to unite. The promise of this day is one we cannot overlook,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare system amid the challenges.

Though the National Bureau of Statistics’ latest Gross Domestic Product report showed that the country’s health sector grew to 2.41 percent, the figure has yet to translate to improved quality of healthcare for the majority of Nigerians grappling with the high cost of pharmaceuticals.

However, experts believe that the recent zero tariff Executive Order on pharmaceuticals will help ease the prices of the products in Nigeria.
