The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded an academic milestone as one of its officers, Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Omolara Sanni, emerged Best Allied Student at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Accra.

She was presented awards on June 20, 2025, during the college’s graduation ceremony which brought together military officials and representatives from multiple African countries.

Sanni was also honoured with the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award.

Her recognition at the GAFCSC followed an assessment of academic performance and strategic analysis among officers from several allied nations, the post on the service Facebook handle revealed.

Her winning paper reportedly met the assessment criteria in both content and presentation, leading to her selection for both awards.

“Her outstanding performance at GAFCSC not only symbolises personal excellence and resilience but also underscores Nigeria’s growing leadership in regional defence and commitment to gender inclusion in the armed forces.

“This remarkable achievement further reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic investment in human capital development” the post reads.

Sanni became notable in 2019 when she was decorated as the NAF’s first female fighter pilot after undergoing pilot training in the United States.

She has since operated the Alpha Jet and trained on the Super Mushshak aircraft, including conducting instructional flights for junior pilots.

The GAFCSC programme is one of the most prominent regional institutions for mid-level officer training, covering areas such as defence policy, strategy, and inter-service collaboration.
