Nigerians no longer willing to die for country – Princewill

Prince Tonye Princewill, a movie producer, politician, and philanthropist, has said that fewer Nigerians are willing to sacrifice for the country because they feel the country is not willing to sacrifice for them.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Princewill said he often tells young people that one of the qualities they need to work with him is a strong love for Nigeria.

“I used to say to them, one of the qualities you need to have to work with me is that you have to be ready to die for Nigeria,” he said.

“But compared to 2007 until now, the number of those who are preparing to die for Nigeria is becoming fewer and fewer.”

He explained that this growing disinterest is because many young people believe their leaders do not care about them.

“They see that the country is not prepared to die for them, the leaders are not prepared to die for them,” he added. “It’s very unfortunate.”

Princewill also criticised the state of politics in Nigeria, saying it is hard to find anything inspiring in the current political space.

He blamed the lack of fresh and principled leadership for the country’s poor direction.

“Our politics is very unfortunate and nothing to be proud of. We need new blood, fresh blood in the system and we are not getting a lot of that unfortunately.”

He stressed the need for political leaders to have clear ideas and ideologies and warned that without this, the system will remain the same.

“I always say politics is too important to be left to politicians,” he said.
