Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as state chairmen of the party condemned what they called an “orchestrated political coup” by a coalition led by former Senate President, Senator David Mark. In a statement jointly signed by the forum leader, Elias Adokwu and the Publicity Secretary, Godwin Alaku, the chairmen described the development as a “blatant and reckless subversion” of both the party and Nigeria’s democratic norms.

2. A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, has described the administration of President Bola Tinubu as a total disaster that has underperformed even compared to the much criticised government of President Muhammadu Buhari. In an interview, Waziri warned that the country is sliding dangerously into deeper crises under Tinubu’s leadership.

3. Troops of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have killed 17 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during clearance operations across Borno and Adamawa states. Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, said in a statement that the terrorists had been operating in Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, and Biu local government areas of Borno State, as well as Michika in Adamawa State.

4. Residents, commuters, and traders were left frustrated on Monday as flash floods swept through several communities and streets in Lagos State following intense rainfall that began Sunday night and persisted intermittently throughout Monday. The downpour, which started around midnight, led to severe flooding on both the Island and Mainland, crippling trade and economic activities across Nigeria’s commercial hub.

5. Importation (foreign investment) into the country rose 67.12 per cent, year-on-year, YoY, to $5.642 billion in the first quarter of the year, Q1’25 from $3.376 billion in the corresponding period in 2024, Q1’24. Similarly, Capital importation increased quarter-on-quarter by 10.86% from $5.09.16 billion in the preceding quarter, Q4 2024.

6. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, on Tuesday, said Nigeria has recorded 155 deaths from Lassa fever from January 1 to July 20, 2025. The Case Fatality Rate now stands at 18.9 per cent, higher than the 17.1 per cent recorded during the same period in 2024.

7. Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to security agencies to identify and arrest the suspected killers of two young men, including a newlywed, who were murdered in Gwer East Local Government Area on Monday.

8. The national leadership of the Labour Party has dissociated itself from a planned protest scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja. A statement issued on Tuesday by Mr Ken Asogwa, the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the party has no connection with the proposed protest.

9. No fewer than six persons have died after a building collapsed during a heavy downpour in Dankama Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday while the victims were asleep, claiming the lives of a mother and five of her children.

10. Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended five of its members for three legislative sittings for withholding vital information. The suspended members were said to have given incomplete information in their report on the investigation of alleged financial misconduct of Otukpo Local Government Area Chairman, Mr Maxwell Ogiri.
