Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) on Monday grilled a former Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal over suspicious cash withdrawals of N189billion. Tambuwal, who was in the custody of the anti-graft agency in Abuja, was expected to account for the questionable cash haul during his tenure.

2. The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 16 containers loaded with prohibited items, including firearms, ammunition, military gear, and fake drugs, worth N10 billion at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa. Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Monday, Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi said the seizures included two pump-action rifles, 25 cartridges of ammunition, and 202 cans of Colorado Loud, a Canadian strain of cannabis.

3. No fewer than five suspected masterminds of the bloody attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State on June 5, 2022, have been arraigned in court. The suspects, who had since been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after their arrest, were arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja by the secret police on Monday.

4. At least three persons were killed on Monday by gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen at Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, even as Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military formation in Borno, killing two soldiers.

5. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has said the rate of hunger and poverty in Nigeria was not just statistics but real. Obi, who said this in a post on his X handle yesterday, explained that the harsh reality was that millions of Nigerians were grappling with acute food shortages and multi-dimensional poverty at a scale never before seen in the country.

6. Female passenger, Comfort Bob, who allegedly assaulted Ibom Air’s crew and clashed with airport security at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, has been remanded at Kirikiri Maxi-mum Security prison in Lagos. The 26-year-old woman, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly causing chaos aboard an Ibom Air flight shortly after it landed at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, Ikeja.

7. The Federal Government has begun the process of appointing five new permanent secretaries, three of whom will head newly established ministries. According to a memo from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the positions are open to qualified directors in the Federal Civil Service.

8. Ogun State Government, on Monday, sealed off Asoludero Court, the Conference Hotels, and its annex in the Sagamu Government Reserved Area, belonging to the former governor and senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. The seal off followed a notice to quit issued to the management of the properties barely three days ago.

9. Shooting Stars assistant coach, Akin Olowokere, slumped and died on Monday morning. Olowokere is one of the coaches that were recently appointed by 3SC. The former Sunshine Stars player and coach went down while in action, attracting medical attention immediately.

10. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended 68 suspected criminals in one month for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed this while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.
