Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a reward of $100,000 for each member of the victorious national female basketball team, D’Tigress. He announced the reward at a reception organised for the team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.

2. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has condemned the ongoing campaign for the 2027 general elections. He said this when he featured on Channels Television Programme, ‘Politics Today’ on Monday. Falana asked the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to draw the attention of politicians to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

3. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. This was contained in a statement issued on Monday.

4. Scores of retired soldiers, who voluntarily exited the Nigerian Army, on Monday, shut down the main entrance to the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance. The protest, which commenced at about 10:15am, witnessed presence of heavy security personnel drawn from the military, police and the Department of State Services (DSS), apparently to prevent break down of law and order.

5. No fewer than 26 people, mostly women, have reportedly been abducted by bandits in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The abduction occurred barely 24 hours after a gang of armed bandits attacked 16 villages in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, killing five people and abducting scores.

6. A physically-challenged female drug trafficker, Rita Idehen, and six others are to spend 93 years in prison after they were convicted by the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, and jailed for various drug-related crimes in July. Six of the rulings were delivered by Hon. Justice Prof. Chuka Obiozor, while one was passed by Hon. Justice J. B. O. Quadiri.

7. Rivers State Police Command said its operatives have arrested seven cultists linked to the murder of a lawyer, Bright Owhor, along Market Road in Rumuomasi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. Owhor, a Port Harcourt-based lawyer, was gruesomely murdered on July 5, 2025, by persons the police described then as ‘unknown gunmen’.

8. Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has formally declared his intention to seek a second term in office, following what he described as an overwhelming wave of public endorsement and political support across the state. The governor made his declaration during a Monday meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress Central Working Committee at the APC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

9. A former House of Representatives member for Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Shiddi Usman, says he will soon unveil his next political move following his recent exit from the All Progressives Congress. Shiddi said his resignation came after months of reflection and growing disillusionment with the ruling party’s internal direction and values.

10. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa Command, has confirmed the killing of its officer by suspected hoodlums at Shuwarin weekly market in Shuwarin District of Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state. Confirming the incident to newsmen in Dutse on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Mr Badaruddin Tijjani, said the incident occurred when the deceased officer went for official operation at the market.
