‎Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

‎

‎1. There has been a total blackout in many parts of the country following another collapse of the national grid. The megawatt, MW generated dropped from 2,917.83, MW to 1.5, MW between 11 am and 12 pm on Wednesday.

‎

‎2. French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday hosted Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu at the Elysee Palace in Paris. The two leaders met over a private working lunch as part of President Tinubu’s ongoing diplomatic engagements in Europe.

‎

‎3. Nigerian men travelling alone will no longer be able to obtain tourist or transit visas to Qatar, following new rules introduced by the country’s Ministry of Interior. The policy, which took effect around September 5, 2025, was first reported by industry sources and travel agencies last week.

‎

‎4. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday expressed concern over the growing resort to early campaigns by politicians and their surrogates in clear violation of extant laws. The INEC national commissioner and Chairman, Board of The Electoral Institute, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, who spoke in Abuja said early campaigns are now disguised as “appreciation” or “philanthropy”.

‎

‎5. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday refused a bail application filed by five men accused of being members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and of carrying out the deadly attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which claimed the lives of more than 40 worshippers and left over 100 others injured.

‎

‎6. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Chibuike Azubike, for allegedly parading himself as the “Obi of Lagos.” He was apprehended alongside three alleged accomplices while attempting to stage an unlawful unveiling ceremony.

‎

‎7. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has directed domestic airlines to place unruly passengers on a blacklist as a deterrent to others and to protect airline staff from abuse. The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, made this known on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Authority.

‎

‎8. The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into the mysterious death of two young men whose bodies were discovered in a canal along the LASU-Igando Road in the Iba area of the state. It was gathered that the corpses had their hands tied behind their back, with blue trash bags knotted tightly around their necks.

‎

‎9. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday officially recognised the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress. This development followed a period of internal restructuring within the party, which culminated in the emergence of new national officers aimed at repositioning the ADC ahead of future electoral contests.

‎

‎10. The Department of State Services has summoned activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, over what it described as a “false and malicious” social media post against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a letter dated September 7, 2025 by Uwem Davies on behalf of the Director-General of the Service, Sowore was asked to retract his comment on X (formerly Twitter) and tender a public apology within one week.
