Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. South South All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders have adopted President Bola Tinubu and three Governors as candidates for the 2027 general elections. The adopted Governors are Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta); Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) Bassey Otu (Cross River).

2. Nigeria Labour Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has warned the National Assembly against  removing  labour matters, including the minimum wage from the exclusive legislative list of the Federal Government to the concurrent list. Ajaero issued the warning on Friday during the National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting of the Central Working Committee held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

3. The National Assembly on Saturday disclosed that it would transmit the report of the ongoing constitution review to 36 State Assemblies before December 2025 consistent with its design and timetable. The parliament, however, challenged all stakeholders with special requests to engage and lobby their State Assemblies, noting that the National Assembly “cannot successfully review the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 without their approval.

4. A former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, says the 2027 general elections will be a battle between Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu’s government. In an appearance on News Central, Dalung said President Tinubu will not be re-elected during the next elections, even if he appoints his son, Seyi, as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

5. The Presidency has asked members of the newly formed coalition under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to forget about the coming election in 2027 and focus on the 2031 polls. Presidential spokesperson, Sunday Dare asked the coalition promoters to try their luck after President Tinubu would have completed his two terms.

6. Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has declared his ambition to contest the Oyo State Governorship election. He made this known on Friday while addressing party members in Ogbomoso at the residence of one of the leaders of the party, Ayoade Adeseun.

7. The New Nigeria Peoples Party says its 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, does not have its platform to contest against President Bola Tinubu and/or any other presidential candidate at the moment in 2027. The NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, made this known in a statement on Saturday.

8. Osun State Police Command, on Saturday, confirmed the arrest of an Islamic cleric, identified simply as Kadiri, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a minor in Ede, Osun State. The incident which occurred at Babasanya-Araka Ede led to a protest by an angry mob, who had attacked the suspect after he was seized.

9. No fewer than 10 people lost their lives while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident that occurred along the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway on Friday night. It was learnt that the accident occurred when a vehicle conveying the 15 occupants plunged from the Omu bridge located at the Awa Ijebu axis of the expressway.

10. The Nigerian Army on Saturday confirmed the arrest of one of its personnel, Lance Corporal Ahmed Aminu, in connection with the death of a phone repairer, Alkasim Ibrahim, in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The incident, which occurred on Friday, has triggered widespread public concern and demands for accountability.
