Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has terminated the appointments of all executive directors at the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL). The decision, approved by CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso on Friday, marks the latest in a series of layoffs at the apex bank since his assumption of office last year.

2. The political crisis rocking Rivers State continued at the weekend following the parallel sittings of lawmakers led by Martins Amaewhule and those controlled by Victor Oko-Jumbo. While the Oko-Jumbo-led lawmakers sat at the Auditorium Administrative Block, Government House to carry out their business, the Amaewhule-led Assembly held its plenary at the Auditorium, Assembly Quarters, off Aba Road.

3. Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says he has no regret working under President Bola Tinubu. Wike, who has been a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since his political career began in 1999, is the lone opposition member in the cabinet of Tinubu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain. Speaking at the PDP Congress in Rivers, Wike said he feels happy being a member of the current administration.

4. Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) in last year’s election, Peter Obi, has reacted to the appointment of Nigerian-born Kelechi Ndukwe as commander of a United States Navy warship. Kelechi Ndukwe’s feat followed his promotion to the rank of Captain in the US Navy.

5. Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has warned governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against interference in the affairs of the party in Rivers State. Speaking after voting at the State Congress of Rivers PDP in Port Harcourt, Wike said he was not prepared to leave the party for anyone.

6. A Federal High Court in Abuja has summoned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Head of the Legal Services Department of the apex bank to appear before it with specific documents on Monday, September 2, the new date fixed for the continuation of the trial in the money laundering case brought against Binance Holdings Limited and its executives.

7. Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted to those criticising him on social media, saying that their abuses and insults lack basis. The former governor said he did not “give a damn” over misinterpretation of his posts, as he added that his critics were judgmental of him “in ignorance and bigotry”.

8. The Federal Road Safety Corps on Saturday said four lives were lost in multiple road accidents that occurred in Ikeji-Arakeji, a town along the Ilesa/Akure expressway in Osun State. Also, 20 other commuters were said to have been injured in the accidents which involved three vehicles.

9. US rapper, Fatman Scoop has died, his family and manager announced Saturday, after the 53-year-old artiste suffered a medical emergency while performing on stage, prompting a wave of tributes from the world of hip-hop. He collapsed on stage at Hamden Town Center Park, Connecticut and was taken to hospital where doctors were unable to revive him, US media reported.

10. Chidimma Adetshina, who represented Taraba State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. Her journey to the title has been nothing short of remarkable, reflecting the resilience and grace reminiscent of the Miss Universe South Africa incident, where she was disqualified.
