Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his presidency is driven by a desire to serve, not to accumulate wealth. President Tinubu also assured Nigerians that his administration is focused on delivering tangible results and making a positive difference in the nation’s infrastructure, food and energy security, education and long-term economic stability.

2. The federal lawmaker representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, Mr. Henry Okojie, on Friday escaped assassination attempt. Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, said the lawmaker and husband of the Nollywood movie Star, Mercy Johnson, was attacked at his residence by gunmen who came in a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State registration number – PHC 253 FF.

3. The Presidency has debunked a report by Bloomberg claiming the country had delayed coupon payments on its savings bonds, affirming that all financial obligations are being met on schedule. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, described the report as incorrect.

4. Ahead of the gubernatorial election, the Edo State government on Friday raised concerns over the action of political thugs whom it said were plotting to overrun the Independent National Electoral Commission offices in some LGAs in the State. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said the military prevented political thugs from overrunning INEC office in Oredo LG.

5. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said corrupt politicians cannot provide good governance. Speaking virtually at the memorial lecture of Denis Joseph Slattery on “the imperative for moral rectitude in governance”, held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Obasanjo, who referred to corrupt political politicians as “thieves”, said they should be jailed.

6. The Borno State Government has announced that so far, N12.554.5 billion in cash donations have been made to offer succour for victims of the recent flood that devastated parts of the state. The donations came from corporate entities, state governments, state and National Assembly members, individuals and non-governmental organisations.

7. The Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants met on Friday as regards the new minimum wage template and agreed that the effective date for implementation of new minimum wage be set at July 29, 2024. This is according to a Memorandum of Understanding issued at the end of the meeting.

8. Two women, Ujunwa Una and Chinelo Igbechionwu, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly taking part in the selling of newborn twin girls in the state. The women were arrested by officers from the Ojodu Division while on patrol at Berger bus stop, following a tip-off from concerned citizens.

9. Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended a notorious gun runner and recovered 20 locally-fabricated AK-47 rifles. The suspect, Bitrus Gyang, from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, was arrested on September 19, 2024, at Buruku Bridge during a routine patrol by officers from the Buruku Division.

10. A 59-year-old man identified as Yemi has disclosed that he attempted suicide because he was overwhelmed by challenges. Yemi, a resident of Ilasa in Lagos State, was rescued by the Rapid Response Squad operatives while attempting to jump into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Friday.
