Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture. The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

2. Hostilities resumed on Friday between the Nenadi Usman faction of Labour Party and the Julius Abure faction, with Abure and his supporters raising hell over the election of Usman as Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary. The Abure faction disowned the meeting of the statutory National Executive Committee of the party.

3. A Federal High Court in Abuja has been urged to order the detained leader of the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu to enter a defence in the terrorism charge in respect of which he is being prosecuted. Prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo, who made this request during Friday’s proceedings, also urged the court to reject the no-case submission made by the defence.

4. A middle-aged man, Abdulhamid Deflowerboy, has been remanded for alleged defamation of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo. Deflowerboy was alleged to be the author of some publications against the governor. The police consequently invited him for questioning, leading to his arraignment and subsequent remand by the court.

5. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted executive approval for the establishment of the South-East Investment Company (SEIC). The SEIC, which is under the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) inaugurated earlier this year, is expected to drive private capital, accelerate industrialisation, and enhance competitiveness in the region.

6. The governor of Edo State, Sen Monday Okpebholo, yesterday sent a powerful message to Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, warning him not to step into Edo State without getting a clearance from him. The governor gave the warning in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of the state while receiving Hon Marcus Onobun who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

7. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a resident of Durumi 2, in Abuja, following the tragic death of a three-year-old boy who drowned in an uncovered soakaway pit on Tuesday night. The suspect, identified as Philip Jallo, was taken into custody by operatives from the Durumi Divisional Headquarters following the incident.

8. A 34-year-old suspected bandit kingpin, Mati Bagio, has been arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command. Bagio, a resident of Unguwan Galadima in Shika District, Giwa Local Government Area of the state, had been on the wanted list for 11 years, according to the police. He was said to have led a criminal gang that terrorised communities across Kaduna and Katsina states for years.

9. A Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has jailed a self-styled gospel singer, Moses Otitoju, and eight others for offences bordering on cybercrime, conspiracy, and misappropriation of funds. Otitoju was convicted alongside Ayodele Joseph, Adeoye Joseph, and Abubakar Abdulmalik, all arraigned by the anti-graft agency on similar charges.

10. Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Friday, called on the two factional leaders of the Labour Party, Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa, along with other disgruntled members, to tender a formal apology as a condition for their reintegration into the party. Otti spoke during the inauguration of Senators Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha as the interim National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, respectively, at the National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
