Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know Monday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly stormed the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and arrested some youths suspected to be internet fraudsters. It was gathered that EFCC operatives carried out the raid on Sunday morning.

2. The Presidency on Sunday dispelled the rumour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s illness. This followed by a report by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, ICIR, alleging that preparations were underway by the president’s medical team to potentially fly him abroad for urgent medical attention.

3. A corps member, Rita Uguamaye, on Sunday stirred fresh controversy after alleging that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) withheld her discharge certificate despite completing her service year. Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, served in Lagos State and first drew public attention when a video she posted on TikTok criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration went viral.

4. Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has dropped some commissioners and special advisers from the State Executive Council. The Secretary to the Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, said the sack was with immediate effect. The affected commissioners and special advisers are to hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

5. The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has said former presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, is a man of integrity and can be trusted to keep his promise to do a single term if elected president of the country in 2027. The Forum maintained that as a man of honour, the Middle Belt believed the former Anambra State governor would keep his words to the letter because of his integrity.

6. Hoodlums armed with cutlasses have attacked a truck driver, Dallami Yunusa, at Ogi Junction in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, leaving him injured before setting his vehicle ablaze. The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Heavy Truck Unit in Okigwe, Dahiru Musa Raza, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Sunday.

7. The Nigerian Army has killed five terrorists, including a notorious commander on its wanted list, and rescued kidnapped victims in multiple counter-terrorism and internal security operations across the country. Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apollonia Anele, disclosed on Sunday that the operations also led to the recovery of assorted arms and ammunition.

8. The African Democratic Congress in Rivers State is growing by leaps and bounds in the state, with a current membership strength of over 800,000 and counting. The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Luckyman Egila, disclosed this at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.

9. Delta State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected armed robber, one Chinedu Eze, and recovered a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK in Asaba, the state capital. The police spokesperson, Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Asaba, the state capital.

10. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the suspension of a planned strike by aviation unions, which was scheduled to commence on Monday. In a statement by the minister through his official X account on Sunday, he said, “We are happy to announce that, after our intervention, the planned strike by the Aviation Unions due to commence tomorrow has been shelved.
