Nigerian Army Kicks Off Inter-Brigade Ball Games To Boost Fitness, Camaraderie

The Nigerian Army 6 Division, on Monday kickstarted the division’s inter brigade balls competition to sharpen the troops physical fitness, promote esprit de corps and build their mutual trust and friendship.
The four-day event which embodies the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition among the soldiers and personnel is also designed to showcase their athletic skills.
Declaring the tournament open at the 6 Division Physical Training Ground, Port Harcourt Barracks, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, emphasised the importance of the games, saying it would spotlight participants’ skills, strategy and physical prowess.
Major General Emekah, who was represented by the Commander 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, assured that the spectators would witness the best of the division’s brigades as they compete in the various ball games.
He said, “It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 6 Division Inter-Brigade Balls Competition 2025.
“This event Embodies the Spirit of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, and Healthy Competition that holds profound significance, not only as a testament to the athletic ability of our soldiers but also as a critical reflection of their operational abilities.
“Today, we gather to witness the best of our brigades as they compete in various ball games, showcasing their skills, strategy, and physical prowess. This competition is not just about winning; it’s about building camaraderie, fostering esprit de corps, and promoting physical fitness among our troops.
Speaking further, he said, “I commend the organizers for their efforts in bringing this event to life. I urge all participants to exhibit the highest level of sportsmanship, respect, and discipline, both on and off the field and also to the competing brigades, I wish you the best of luck. May the best team win, and may we all emerge from this competition stronger, more united, and more determined to serve our nation with excellence.
“It is my profound believe that your performance today would inspire your comrade and also showcase unmatched Competence of this Division. With great pride and enthusiasm, I hereby declare the competition officially open! let the games begin, and may the best team emerge victorious.”
Delivering his welcome address, the Chief Host, Commander 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, who was represented by the Commanding Officer, 6 Division Garrison Administrative Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Orobasa Igheghe, said the competition would also exhibit exceptional athleticism and teamwork of the division’s personnel.
“Distinguished guests, officers, soldiers, and participants, it is with great pride that I welcome you to the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt for the 6 Division Inter-Brigade Sports Competition 2025.
“Today marks a significant occasion as we gather to showcase the exceptional athleticism and teamwork of our personnel. This competition is not merely an event; it is a vital opportunity to promote physical fitness, discipline, and a strong sense of camaraderie among our troops.”
He commended the organisers for their wonderful of making the timely event a reality.
