Nigeria Reports 15.6% Monthly Increase in Gas Production for March 2025

Nigeria’s natural gas production rose significantly in March 2025, recording a 15.6% month-on-month increase to reach 227,931.65 million standard cubic feet (mscf).

This marks a substantial improvement from the previous month’s figures.

Compared to the same period last year, the data also reflects positive growth. March 2025’s output of 227,931.65 mscf exceeded the March 2024 production of 198,353.62 mscf, demonstrating continued expansion in the nation’s gas sector.

According to recent reports from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the March 2025 production comprised two categories of gas: 119,552.75 mscf of associated gas and 108,378.90 mscf of non-associated gas.

For context, associated gas is extracted as a byproduct during crude oil production operations, while non-associated gas is obtained independently through dedicated gas exploration and development activities.

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) has played a key role in formulating policies to boost the sector. The ministry reports that various initiatives have been implemented to attract greater investment and increase production capacity in Nigeria’s gas industry.

According to Nigeria LNG Limited, “We are fully committed to expanding our operations with the NLNG Train 7 Project, which will boost our production capacity by 35%, increasing from 22 Million Tonnes Per Annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa.

“This project underscores our role as a key player in the global LNG market and positions Nigeria as a top-tier supplier of LNG, leveraging its vast proven gas reserves of 202 trillion cubic feet—the 9th largest globally.”
