Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have qualified for the 2025 Afrobasket Championship in Angola.

D’Tigers recorded a 75-70 victory over Libya in their first match before another resounding 87-67 win over Uganda in their second match.

Caleb Agada continued his fine form from the Libya game with a game-high 20 points, while adding seven assists and three steals.

Captain Ike Nwamu contributed 18 points, with Talib Zanna recording a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

It was an improvement from their previous showing in the last qualifying series where they lost all their three matches.

FIBA confirmed on Sunday that all the teams in Group B have qualified for the 2025 Afrobasket, meaning Nigeria’s last match against Cape Verde is inconsequential.

Cape Verde currently tops the Group with eight points, followed by Libya with the same number of points, Nigeria occupying the third position with seven points alongside Uganda in fourth.

The fourth placed team at the end of the series will qualify as the best-fourth team of the Afrobasket qualifiers.

Nigeria is the first African team to qualify for the Summer Olympics through the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
