Nigeria Excluded As Trump Plans Travel Ban On Russia, North Korea, 41 Other Countries
The U.S. President, Donald Trump, is considering imposing visa restrictions on 43 countries as part of his administration’s immigration crackdown, according to a report by Reuters on Saturday.
The report, citing an internal memo and officials familiar with the matter, reveals that the countries are categorised into three groups: red, orange, and yellow.
While the proposal is yet to receive final approval from the Trump administration, the list excludes major African economies like Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt.
The red group, comprising 11 nations, includes Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Cuba, Bhutan, Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen, and Somalia. Citizens from these countries would be completely barred from entering the U.S.
The orange group consists of 10 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Pakistan, Laos, Turkmenistan, Haiti, and Eritrea. Nationals from these countries would face strict visa restrictions.
The yellow group, which includes 22 countries, has been given 60 days to address U.S. concerns.
The nations in this category include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
However, a U.S. official told Reuters that the list is subject to changes and has not yet been approved by the administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
This initiative is part of Trump’s broader efforts to tighten immigration policies, a key focus of his second term, which began on January 20.
If implemented, the policy would mark one of the most extensive travel bans in U.S. history, affecting lots of nations across multiple continents.
