Nigeria at 64: Tinubu supporters hold rally in Adamawa as govt cancels planned activity

Young men and women under the aegis of Adamawa Concerned Youths flooded the streets of Yola Tuesday proclaiming that Nigerians have much to celebrate 64 years after independence.

The youths seized the initiative of the independence celebration from the state government which cancelled its plans abruptly.

The government had been preparing for the event and had contracted cultural troupes to entertain and mobilized schools to take part in a match at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola.

As DAILY POST gathered, however, after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri held a security meeting with service heads late on Monday, the eve of the Independence Day celebration, the government chose to cancel its plans for security reasons.

In a consequently quiet Yola Tuesday morning, members of the Adamawa Concerned Youths group staged a solidarity street walk, saying Nigeria has seen many progressive changes since independence and that incumbent President Bola Tinubu has been sufficiently up and doing in addressing prevailing challenges.

Convener of the group, Yakubu Umar Girei, said the fiscal reforms instituted by the Tinubu administration are manifesting in economic resurgence and social welfare improvements across Nigeria in various sectors.

“While the effect of some of the policies can be felt, other critical successes which cannot be seen or touched are also contributing immensely to Nigeria’s socio-economic rebirth,” Girei said.

He added that in any case, Nigeria has had infrastructural and social development manifesting in roads and educational and other institutions since independence in 1960 that are worth celebrating.
