Governor of Niger State, Umaru Mohammed Bago

The Niger Government has commenced a 3-day training workshop for high-level teachers and mentors to promote inclusive early childhood education in the state.

The reports that the workshop has as its theme “Enhancing Teaching Excellence, Promoting Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and Fostering Sustainable School Leadership”.

In his remarks at the workshop on Wednesday in Minna, Gov. Umaru Bago, said that the training was meant to enhance teaching excellence, promote inclusive early childhood education, and foster sustainable school leadership.

Bago, represented by his deputy, Mr Yakubu Garba, assured that the welfare and capacity building of teachers in the state would be a top priority to his administration.

He said that the state was rolling out plans to resuscitate and overhaul dilapidated school infrastructure across the state.

The governor said that the state government had implemented one of the top salary scales in the country and had prioritised teachers’ demands and incentives.

He advised all teachers to subscribe to becoming licensed professionals and learn from the training to impact their colleagues and pupils in their various schools.

Earlier, Dr Hadiza Mohammed, the immediate past Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, said that the initiative was part of the broader educational transformation agenda of the state government.

Mohammed commended the governor’s unwavering support to the education sector, which, she said, had placed education, especially inclusive and quality education, at the very heart of sustainable development.

She outlined the three pillars of the workshop as teaching excellence, inclusive early childhood education, and sustainable school leadership.

“Our goal is to equip you, our teachers, with updated knowledge, modern pedagogical techniques, and the tools to inspire excellence in the classroom,” she said.

Mohammed emphasised the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future of children and the state, adding that their decisions, the values they instilled, and the methods they used, have a lasting impact on the lives of learners.

She urged participants to seize the opportunity to renew their passion for teaching, deepen their commitment to inclusive education, and embrace their role as leaders in the noble profession.

In his remarks, Dr Hussaini Usman, the Director of the state Teachers Professional Development Institute, applauded the governor’s “New Niger Agenda” on education.

Usman encouraged participants to make use of the opportunity to learn valuable lessons that could impact pupils and schools in the state.
