NGX Records N45.91bn In Weekly Turnover As Trading Activity Surges

Investors on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) recorded a total turnover of 3.32bn shares valued at N45.91bn across 49,243 transactions during the past week.

This represents a significant increase compared to the previous week’s turnover of 1.86 billion shares worth N38.44b, which were traded in 40,228 deals.

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization saw a modest appreciation of 0.21 per cent, closing the week at 98,458.68 points and N56.58trn, respectively.

In line with this upward trend, most indices ended the week on a positive note. However, the NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Lotus II, NGX Industrial Goods, and NGX Growth indices recorded declines of 0.15 per cent, 3.31 per cent, 0.04 per cent, and 0.26 per cent respectively, while the NGX ASeM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices remained unchanged.

The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.43bn shares valued at N23.66bn traded in 22,745 deals; thus contributing 43.09 per cent and 51.53 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The Oil and Gas Industry followed with 703.39m shares worth N7.32bn in 6,207 deals. The third place was the Healthcare Industry, with a turnover of 411.49m shares worth N2.89bn in 827 deals.

Trading in the top three equities namely Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc, Mecure Industries Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 1.363 billion shares worth N9.47bn in 4,050 deals, contributing 41.06 per cent and 20.63 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Forty-five equities appreciated in price during the week higher than forty-one equities in the previous week.

Thirty-three equities depreciated in price lower than forty in the previous week, while seventy-three equities remained unchanged, higher than seventy recorded in the previous week.
