NGX Market Sees Strong Gains as ASI Surges Nearly 2%
Trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) kicked off the week on a high note as the All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1.99% on Monday, reaching 144,071.78—up from Friday’s closing figure of 141,263.05.
Market capitalisation also rose in tandem, increasing by ₦1.78 trillion to end the session at ₦91.15 trillion, compared to the previous ₦89.37 trillion.
The total volume and value of traded equities came in at 811 million units and ₦19.5 billion, respectively, executed in 35,963 deals.
The session ended with a positive market breadth: 47 gainers outpaced 23 losers, signalling robust investor participation.
Topping the gainers’ list were UPDC, Royal Exchange, and LASACO, each recording a 10% increase in share prices. UACN, Sovereign Trust Insurance, and Champion Breweries also posted significant gains of 9.97%, 9.94%, and 9.91%, respectively.
On the flip side, Transcorp Power and Academy Press led the laggards, both sliding 10% to close at ₦288.00 and ₦9.90. Other notable decliners included JOHMHOLT (−9.59%), Total Energy (−9.22%), and Ecobank (−9.21%).
Among the most actively traded stocks were:
FCMB, which exchanged approximately 85 million shares across 1,312 deals.
Universal Insurance, with about 83 million shares traded in 184 transactions, was valued at ₦62 million.
Fidelity Bank, which recorded 45 million shares traded in 945 deals, amounting to ₦956 million.
These trends reflect heightened investor interest and sustained momentum in the equity market as participants continue to reposition amidst shifting economic tides.
