The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) witnessed a total turnover of 1.85 billion shares valued at N51.39bn in 63,090 deals during the trading week, reflecting a decline from the 2.001 billion shares worth N49.49bn exchanged in 70,853 deals the previous week.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalization recorded a 0.62 per cent depreciation, closing at 107,821.39 points and N67.19trn, respectively.
The overall market performance was subdued, with most indices closing in the red. However, select indices managed to post gains, including NGX ASeM (+0.04 per cent), NGX Oil & Gas (+0.60 per cent), NGX Lotus II (+0.33 per cent), NGX Sovereign Bond (+0.81 per cent), and NGX Commodity (+0.53 per cent).
The financial services industry dominated the activity chart, contributing 70.13 per cent of total equity turnover volume and 52.38 per cent of total value. A total of 1.296 billion shares worth N26.91bn were traded in 29,140 deals. Following closely, the services industry recorded 129.44 million shares valued at N719.22m in 3,657 deals, while the consumer goods industry secured third place with 116.696 million shares worth N4.19bn in 7,452 deals.
Among individual stocks, Zenith Bank Plc, FCMB Group Plc, and Access Holdings Plc led in trading volume, collectively accounting for 539.768 million shares worth N16.53bn in 7,392 deals. This represented 29.21 per cent of total equity turnover volume and 32.16 per cent of total market value.
Market breadth remained negative as more equities recorded losses than gains. Twenty-seven stocks appreciated, slightly lower than the 28 recorded in the previous week. Conversely, 60 equities depreciated, compared to 58 in the prior week. Meanwhile, 63 stocks remained unchanged, a slight decrease from the 64 recorded previously.
Overall, the week’s trading activity reflected a cautious market sentiment amid fluctuations in investor demand and sectoral performance.
