Ngumoha Sets EPL Record To Lead Liverpool Past Newcastle United

Rio Ngumoha scored a late goal to lead Liverpool to a 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday.

The English young star came off the bench in the 96th minute before scoring the winner four minutes later to hand Liverpool the maximum points in a thrilling encounter.

Newcastle United were the better side in the first half, but their inability to finish off their chances was their biggest challenge as they fell behind to Ryan Gravenberch’s strike from outside the box in the 35th minute.

The Magpies were reduced to 10 men after Anthony Gordon was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Virgil Van Dijk on the stroke of half-time.

Liverpool resumed the second half with intent and purpose, and they were immediately rewarded with the second goal after new signing Hugo Ekitike finished superbly in the box to make it 2-0.

Bruno Guimarães reduced the deficit with a well-placed header in the 57th minute to give Newcastle United a glimmer of hope.

Substitute William Osula made it 2-2 with a close-range finish in the 88th minute before another substitute, Rio Ngumoha, grabbed the winning goal and ultimately the three points for Liverpool in the 100th minute.

The 16-year-old scored his first-ever Premier League goal to become the fourth youngest scorer in Premier League history after James Vaughan (16y 270d), James Milner (16y 356d), and Wayne Rooney (16y 360d).

Ngumoha is only the second 16-year-old to score a winning goal in the Premier League after Wayne Rooney in 2002.

Up next for Liverpool is a Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, while Newcastle United will battle it out with Leeds United on Saturday.
