NCSCN Hails Ribadu, Buba For Mixed Approach To Fighting Crime

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has applauded the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba, for their insistence on combining kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in the fight against insecurity.

According to the Executive Director of NCSCN, Ambassador Blessing Akinlosotu, the dual approach has significantly reduced violent incidents across the country.

He disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on findings by the Council’s Directorate of Security and Intelligence Matters on Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.

“Our findings show that the insistence of the NSA and Senator Buba on blending dialogue, negotiations, and other non-kinetic measures with conventional military action has contributed to dousing farmers-herders clashes, inter-communal violence, and other forms of insecurity,” Akinlosotu stated.

He noted that while many policymakers still rely solely on hardline measures such as weapons and troop deployments, Ribadu and Buba have demonstrated a deeper understanding of the complexities of Nigeria’s security challenges.

Akinlosotu said global evidence supports their approach, citing research by UNIDIR and ISS in the Lake Chad Basin as well as global crisis negotiation models, including FBI-led strategies, which confirm that negotiated peace often yields higher long-term success.

He, however, cautioned against attempts by detractors to label the NSA and the Senate security committee chairman as weak or sympathetic to bandits, insisting that such claims were unfounded and politically motivated.

While commending their achievements, he urged Ribadu and Buba to intensify efforts, noting that more ground still needed to be covered to achieve lasting peace across the country.
