NCDC confirms 11 new Lassa fever cases, death toll rises to 155

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) confirmed in its latest situation report for Epidemiological Week 29, from 14th to 20th July 2025, 11 new cases of lassa fever in Nigeria

The new cases were reported from Ondo and Edo states.

The number of new suspected cases recorded was a total of 120, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases to 6640 in 2025.

The number of confirmed cases now stands at 822 cases, with 155 confirmed death from Lassa fever across the country since the beginning of the year 2025.

This brings the case fatality rate to 18.9 percent, up from 17.1 percent for the same period in 2024.

The NCDC report indicates that 89 percent of confirmed cases in 2025 came from five states: Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba and Ebonyi.

According to the report, Ondo had seven confirmed cases, Edo had four confirmed cases, while Bauchi and Benue states had a reduction.

During the reporting week, a total of eight cases were managed at the Treatment Centres. No new symptomatic contacts or new infections among health care workers were reported.

There were a total of 14 contacts under follow-up, while 3400 contacts had completed follow-up in 2025.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 3430 contacts have been listed for follow-up.
