The Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NBSA) has warned Nigeria to be on alert of Ebola outbreaks in some African countries including Uganda, Kampala.

The virus disease which is transmitted through contact with infected persons or animal fluid such as blood, saliva, urine, semen or faeces was experienced in 2014 Nigeria as part of the larger West African epidemic that occurred between 2013- 2016.

The president, Nigeria Biological Safety Association Dr Stella N. Udo said the Ugandan government has confirmed an outbreak of ‘Sudan Ebola’ on 30th January in Kampala.

She said, though no outbreak in West Africa yet, Nigerians should be cautious and immediately report any suspicious symptoms to the relevant government agencies

“We advise Nigerian citizens and residents to avoid all travels to Uganda now until the outbreak is contained “.

She said the government should intensify screening of passengers returning from Uganda at various points of entry to avoid spread.

Udo urged health workers to strictly employ standard operating procedures, personal protective equipment, and preventative measures while maintaining a high level of suspicion when discharging their duties.
