Natasha’s return to Senate has no date if court must decide – Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the planned resumption of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Sani said the senator’s return to the National Assembly remains uncertain if it depends on a pending court case.

He wrote: “If the pending court issues has to be resolved before the Kogi Senator resumes, then the resumption has no date.”

DAILY POST reports that the National Assembly had on Tuesday rejected Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intention to resume legislative duties.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate said her six-month suspension remains in force pending the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

Recall that Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had informed the Senate that her suspension ended on September 4.

But the Senate clarified that the suspension, which followed allegations of insubordination after she rejected a change of her seat during plenary, began on March 6, 2025.

The upper legislative chamber stressed that the matter is sub judice and would only be reviewed after the court delivers its verdict.
