Nasarawa United earned a stunning 1-0 win over Nigeria Premier Football League table-toppers Remo Stars in a matchday 26 clash at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday.

The encounter was a clash of different objectives as the hosts attempted to avoid relegation, while the visitors aimed to continue their chase for their first-ever NPFL title.

The league’s top scorer, Anas Yusuf, scored the only goal in the 25th minute to hand Nasarawa United the maximum points, which lifted them to 17th on the log.

The defeat was a major blow to Remo Stars title hopes but they still maintained a nine-point lead over second-placed Shooting Stars.

Shooting Stars played out a 1-1 draw against Enyimba in Aba.

Sodiq Ibrahim opened the scoring for the visitors in the 16th minute before Ekene Awazie restored parity for Enyimba before the end of the first half.

Both sides failed to add to their tally in the second half, as the tie ended in a stalemate.

The Oluyole Warriors failed to take advantage of Remo Stars’ loss to Nasarawa United, as they remained in second place, taking their winless run to four league matches.

Enyimba, on the other hand, have failed to win their last three league matches to languish in the 12th position with 35 points from 26 matches.

Kano Pillars earned a vital 1-0 win over Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium thanks to a lone goal from veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali.

The victory moved them up to sixth on the log with 39 points from 26 matches, while Akwa United are rooted in 19th with 24 points.

Daniel Akanbek and Victor Okoro scored the goals that earned the Niger Tornadoes a 2-0 away win against Lobi Stars in Makurdi.

Defending champions Enugu Rangers recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Sunshine Stars thanks to goals from Bashir Usman, Joel Odoh and Kingsley Maduforo.

Remo Stars are on course to win their first Premier League title with a nine-point lead over second-placed Shooting Stars.

The Sky Blue Stars will be hoping to bounce back against Plateau United on Sunday in Ikenne.
