The factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Nafiu Bala, has described as fake and fraudulent creation by desperate political actors, a resignation letter purportedly attributed to him.

The Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, Dr Christopher Okechukwu, explained in a statement that the document dated May 18, 2025, was not authored or signed by Nafiu Bala and does not have the official stamp of the ADC in it.

The statement further explained that Nafiu Bala has not vacated from his position as the chairman of the party and continues to lead it following due process as contained in its constitution, describing the letter as fake and a desperate ploy designed to destabilise the future of the party in the country.

He said the National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress under the legitimate and constitutionally recognized Acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, issued the statement to categorically deny the existence of any legitimate resignation letter from Nafiu Bala.”

According to the statement, Nafiu Bala has not at any time resigned from his position as Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, nor has he relinquished his leadership role following the legitimate transition processes outlined in the party constitution.

”The fraudulent document, the statement explained lacks the official party letterhead, emblems, or insignia. It represents a desperate attempt to create confusion and destabilise the party’s operations.

The statement said that the ADC affirmed that according to its’s constitution, ”any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must be a registered member of the party for at least one year, maintain current financial obligations and membership status and follows due process in leadership transitions.”

He called on the INEC to reject any unauthorised documentation and recognise only Nafiu Bala’s leadership and called on party members nationwide are to remain vigilant against misinformation campaigns.
