NAFDAC Seizes Three Petrol Tankers Transporting Edible Oil In Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reported the seizures of three petrol tanker trucks in Apapa for allegedly transporting crude edible vegetable oil.

The information was shared on Wednesday via its X handle, accompanied by a video, noting that the oil had reportedly been trans-loaded into the tankers from an edible oil depot.

“Concerned about the potential health risks due to chemical contamination from the tankers’ previous use for transporting petrol, NAFDAC officials escorted the tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota,” the Agency said.

The NAFDAC noted that the crude soy oil was subsequently handed over to the Southwest Zonal Office of the agency for further regulatory action.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Moji Adeyeye, according to the statement, has established a committee to develop guidelines and a code of ethics for the marketing and distribution of edible vegetable oils in the country.

“NAFDAC urges the public to report any suspicious or unwholesome practices related to food and regulated products.

“We affirm our commitment to strict enforcement and continuous surveillance to protect public health,” the posts read.
