NABTEB builds human capacity of directors to enhance performance
As part of deliberate policy to improve the performance capacity to deliver on its core mandate, the National Business and Technical Examination Board, NABTEB, has organised a two-day capacity building for the directors’ cadre in the Board.
Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, the Registrar/CEO of the board, who declared the event open said the training was geared towards equipping the staff with the relevant skills to withstand and navigate the public service environment.
Mohammed noted that the public service environment is becoming increasingly complex, demanding agility, transparency and strategic foresight.
He added that the programme was part of the board’s policy to continuously invest in the growth, knowledge and capacity of workers to lead with insight, integrity and innovation.
While describing the theme of the workshop, “Enhancing the Future of NABTED: Leadership Capacity Building for Management Staff” as apt, he posited that more than ever before, the public institutions are being held to high standards of accountability and professionalism.
He said the training would address the core issues that are vital to NABTEB’s operational success and corporate integrity.
He stated that the theme was deliberately chosen to reflect NABTEB’s ongoing commitment to institutional development and leadership renewal.
According to him, the lessons learnt during the training will help directors demonstrate commitment and honesty in the discharge of their responsibilities in the NABTEB system-wide and make more development.
“The theme: Enhancing the future of NABTEB, is not merely aspirational; it is a call to action. A call that begins with strengthening the very people at the helm of our operations, you, our directors.
“The training is not an end, rather, it is a part. It is part of a broader vision to reposition NABTEB for greater relevance, impact, and credibility in the national and global examination landscape”, he said.
The NABTEB boss explained that the directors would undergo training on public procurement best practices, public service rules and financial regulations, corrupt practices in the public sector and their implications, and report writing and communication.
He averred that the lesson learnt from the training would help the directors to demonstrate commitment and honesty in the discharge of their responsibility in the NABTEB system-wide and make more development.
He, however, expressed confidence that by the training, the directors shall emerge better informed, better equipped, and better prepared to steer the agency to greater heights.
Earlier in his welcome address, Mr Henry Johnson, the director of administration of the board, said the training marks a significant milestone in the agency’s journey towards institutional and leadership accountability.
Johnson, who is the chairman of the local organising committee for the capacity building programme, charged the participants to see the training not as a refresher but as a commitment to the ideals of excellence, integrity and professionalism.
“This training marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards institutional renewal and leadership accountability. In a time when public confidence in the governance systems hinges greatly on the ethical conduct and administrative competence of public officers, this gathering of directors is both timely and necessary.
“This event is not just another seminar, rather, it is a deliberate intervention to reinforce our understanding of regulatory frameworks, revisit the ethical foundations of public administration, and reflect on the principles that should guide our decisions and conduct.
“As directors, we serve as the compass for the departments we lead. If our compass is off, the entire ship risks veering off course. It is, therefore, incumbent upon us to ensure we are well-equipped to provide guidance that aligns with extant laws, financial propriety, due process and the public trust vested in us”, he stated.
