Murray Quits As Djokovic Coach Ahead French Open

Andy Murray has left his position as the coach of Novak Djokovic ahead of the 2025 French Open.

The decision was by mutual consent, bringing an end to their six-month working relationship.

Djokovic appointed Murray as coach in November, and he led him to the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

However, Djokovic has lost his first match in four of his past five tournaments, as well as losing in the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik.

The 37-year-old praised Murray for his professionalism in the last six months.

Djokovic said, “Thank you, Coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over the last six months on and off the court – I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.

“I was pleasantly surprised by Murray’s dedication and professionalism as a coach.

“It comes naturally to him. His IQ is general, and his tennis IQ is very high. He observes and speaks when it is most important.

“I think he understands the moment when he needs to say something and what to say, and what to ask.

“I must say at the beginning it was a bit of a strange feeling to be able to share the insights with him, not just about the game, but about how I feel about life in general.

“Not in a negative way, but just in a way I have never done that with him because he was always one of my greatest rivals.”

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is currently preparing for the Geneva Open after entering the tournament with a wild card.

Andy Murray was delighted with the opportunity to work with Djokovic while wishing him all the best in the future.

He said, “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together, and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”

Murray won 46 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including three majors at the 2012 US Open, 2013 Wimbledon Championships, and 2016 Wimbledon Championships.

He also won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics, the 2016 ATP World Tour Finals, and 14 Masters events before retiring from tennis in August 2024.
