Muchova Defeats Sabalenka To Qualify For China Open Semi-final
Karolina Muchova earned a stunning 7-6(5) 2-6 6-4 over World number two, Aryna Sabalenka, to qualify for the China Open semi-final.
Muchova continued her dominance over Sabalenka with her third straight victory in the encounter.
A double fault by Muchova put Sabalenka on the verge of winning the first set, but the world number 49 saved two set points to force a tiebreak, which she won.
Sabalenka bounced back in the second set to win 6-2 as Muchova only managed to score half of her service points.
The World Number two went 4-2 up in the third set, but Muchova persisted through long rallies to make it 4-4.
Muchova held on to win the next two games to hand Sabalenka her first defeat since August.
She ended Sabalenka’s 15-match winning run to book a place against Qinwen Zheng in the semi-final.
She said, “Tennis is a rollercoaster, I just tried to fight for every ball, and in the end, it was worth it. I’m standing here winning, and it’s fun, it’s crazy, I am really glad.”
