A suspected phone snatcher, Saidu Sinah, popularly known as Ojubintin, has died after being brutally attacked by an angry mob at AP/Akerele Junction, Agege, Lagos State.

According to a police report seen by THE WHISTLER on Monday, Sinah and his accomplices allegedly ambushed a middle-aged woman in the early hours of Saturday, stabbed her, and made away with her mobile phone.

While his gang members managed to escape, Sinah was caught by residents who subjected him to severe beatings.

On sighting police officers from Isokoko Division deployed to the scene, the mob dispersed, leaving Sinah unconscious.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The woman he allegedly attacked is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

“On 15/03/2025 at about 0630 hours, a distress call was received at Isokoko Division that a suspected armed robber who specialised in snatching mobile phones from commuters was apprehended, beaten to stupor, and about to be lynched by (an) angry mob at AP/Akerele Junction, Agege. Based on the report, teams of policemen were swiftly mobilised to the scene.

“The mob took to their heels on sighting the police, while the suspect, later identified as Saidu Sinah ‘m’, a.k.a. Ojubintin, was rescued with severe injuries and rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he later died,” the report shared by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said.

Authorities have since transferred Sinah’s body to a public morgue while launching a manhunt for his fleeing accomplices. The police are also investigating those responsible for the mob attack.

“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased, with his cohorts now at large, allegedly stabbed a middle-aged woman and dispossessed her of her phone at the aforementioned area.

“The woman was immediately taken to the hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

“The hospital where the injured victim was rescued has been visited; the victim has been inspected and photographed. The corpse of the deceased has been evacuated to a public morgue by the Lagos State Health and Monitoring Unit.

“Meanwhile, the effort is ongoing to arrest other wanted members of the group and those who participated in the jungle justice. The investigation is in progress,” it added.
