Mob action: Hoodlums kill NSCDC officer in Jigawa

Hoodlums have reportedly attacked and killed a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, SC Bashir Adamu Jibril, in Jigawa State.

An eyewitness told DAILY POST that the incident happened on Monday when the officer arrested a suspected criminal at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area.

He said that following the arrest of the suspect, his associates attacked the officer with sticks and cutlasses, inflicting injuries that led to his death.

NSCDC spokesperson for the Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to DAILY POST.

According to him, “Today, Monday, 4th August 2025, at approximately 1300hrs, our officer, one SC Bashir Adamu Jibril, was performing his lawful duty around Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area when he was brutally attacked and killed.”

He said the attack followed the successful arrest of a criminal suspect by the officer, who was working with the Intelligence Department. This, he noted, sparked agitation among a group of hoodlums who resorted to violence to prevent justice.

He explained that the mob, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and other locally fabricated dangerous weapons, descended on the officer, inflicting grievous injuries that led to his instant and untimely death.

He was quickly transported to the Dutse General Hospital, where medical personnel formally confirmed him dead on arrival.

ASC Badruddeen said the prime suspect and mastermind of the mob attack has since been apprehended by the Corps, while investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

The Command strongly condemned what it described as a senseless act of jungle justice meted out to the officer in the line of duty. It assured the general public and the family of the deceased that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion and that no effort would be spared in ensuring that all those involved in the heinous crime are brought to book.
