Minister Mandates Ogun Varsity To Commence Admission September

The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has directed the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and principal officers of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), to commence admission pf students by September.

Alausa gave this mandate at the inauguration of Principal Officers for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Universal Basic Education Commission, and FUMMSA on Wednesday.

The Minister also emphasised the urgency of collaboration with key regulatory bodies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National University Commission (NUC) to facilitate a seamless admissions process.

He urged the Vice-Chancellor to leverage their expertise in laying the university’s foundation and ensuring essential infrastructure is in place.

He further stressed the importance of aligning FUMMSA’s programs with national and global healthcare needs, particularly in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry.

A statement by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folsade, disclosed that other newly appointed Officials include Dr. Mohammed Aminu, Registrar, NABTEB; Tunde Ajibulu, Deputy Executive Secretary (Service), UBEC; and Olajuwon Akinyebi, Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), UBEC.

Alausa reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.

He also highlighted ongoing reforms in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the integration of new appointees into the restructuring of Nigeria’s vocational education framework.

The minister also commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership adding that his administration’s dedication to fostering an enabling environment for public service.

On behalf of the new appointees, FUMMSA Vice-Chancellor Professor Fatiu Arogundade expressed gratitude to the president and pledged to uphold integrity, transparency, and excellence.
