Metaplanet Secures $515M to Deepen Bitcoin Investment Strategy
Japanese firm Metaplanet has raised approximately $515 million (¥74.9 billion) through a fresh issuance of 54 million shares, reinforcing its pivot from traditional business to digital assets.
The fundraising, completed in collaboration with institutional backer EVO FUND, marks one of the most substantial equity-driven efforts to acquire Bitcoin by any publicly listed company to date.
Formerly known for its work in the hospitality industry, Metaplanet has undergone a complete transformation. Its new focus lies in building one of the largest Bitcoin treasuries among global corporations.
The firm already holds over 11,000 BTC and now joins a growing list of major players—like Tesla and MicroStrategy—that have made significant Bitcoin investments. The recent capital injection will be used entirely to expand its crypto holdings.
Metaplanet’s roadmap outlines ambitious goals: 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025, 100,000 BTC by 2026, and eventually 210,000 BTC by 2027—a total that would represent 1% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply.
This aggressive strategy signals strong long-term confidence in the digital asset and may inspire more Japanese corporations to consider diversifying into cryptocurrencies. The success of this move could redefine Metaplanet’s role in both the tech and financial sectors, making it a name to watch in the evolving crypto economy.
