Meta in Talks to Hire Former GitHub CEO for AI Expansion
Meta Platforms is reportedly in advanced discussions to bring former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman on board, as part of its growing focus on artificial intelligence. According to The Information, which cited a person familiar with the talks, Meta may also be looking to bring in Daniel Gross, Friedman’s partner at their venture firm NFDG.
The potential hires are said to be part of a broader strategy by Meta to expand its AI capabilities. The company is also exploring the possibility of acquiring a portion of NFDG’s investment fund, as it seeks to integrate more top talent and assets into its AI ecosystem.
This development comes as Meta intensifies its push to compete in the global race for AI leadership. Just last week, it committed $14.8 billion to Scale AI, marking its second-largest investment to date.
The tech giant also brought on Alexandr Wang, Scale AI’s CEO, to co-lead a new unit focused on the development of “superintelligence”—AI systems far more advanced than those available today.
Friedman is not a stranger to Meta, having previously served on the company’s external Advisory Group, where he provided input on technology and product direction. As of now, Meta has not publicly commented on the ongoing discussions with Friedman or Gross.
