First Lady Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1 billion, accusing him of making a “false and defamatory” claim that she was introduced to Donald Trump by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The legal warning, issued through her attorneys, demands the president’s son retract his statement and issue a public apology or face a lawsuit seeking damages “in excess of $1 billion.”
Biden made the allegation during an interview earlier this month with filmmaker Andrew Callaghan, where he criticized President Trump’s past association with Epstein.
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump, the connections are so wide and deep,” Biden claimed, while suggesting unreleased files could implicate the president.
Melania’s legal team dismissed the allegation as “inflammatory fiction” and accused Biden of repeating it to gain attention, citing his “history of trading on the names of others.”
The letter also noted that the claim appeared to stem from a since-retracted Daily Beast article that relied on reporting by journalist Michael Wolff, whose account has been challenged.
The Daily Beast pulled the article after receiving a legal letter from the first lady’s attorney, later issuing an apology “for any confusion or misunderstanding.”
There is no evidence Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. A 2016 Harper’s Bazaar profile states they met at a New York party in 1998 hosted by a modeling agency founder, years after Trump’s split from his second wife, Marla Maples.
Asked for comment, Melania’s aide Nick Clemens said the first lady’s lawyers were “actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious falsehoods.”
Hunter Biden’s legal team has not responded.
The dispute comes amid renewed political pressure over the release of so-called “Epstein files.” Despite Trump’s campaign promise to make the records public, the FBI and Justice Department said last month there was no incriminating “client list” of Epstein associates.
