Mbappe Scores 35th Goal Of Season As Real Madrid Defeat Celta Vigo
Kylian Mbappe scored his 33rd goal of the season to lead Real Madrid to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday.
The French forward scored a brace before Arda Guler added the other goal to hand Real Madrid the maximum points ahead of the Classico clash with Barcelona next week.
Guler opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a stunning effort to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Mbappe doubled their lead with a close range finish from a Bellingham pass.
Three minutes into the second half, Mbappe added his second goal, his 24th league goal of the season.
Celta Vigo mounted a late fight to reduce the deficit through goals from Javier Rodriguez, and Williot Swedberg.
Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti believes the Clasico will be decisive in the title race.
He said: “Yes, obviously. I won’t say Sunday’s game will be decisive, but almost. … If we win, we’re a point behind. The league would still be in Barcelona’s hands, but we’ll have more of a chance.
The Italian manager was full of praise for Arda Guler who netted the first goal in the encounter.
Ancelotti said: “The Güler of September isn’t the Güler of today. He’s changed, his physical profile has changed. He’s done better this year, and he’ll do better in the coming years. He has the profile to be a first-team player at Real Madrid.”
“Two months ago I had a go at the people around him [for being impatient], and now I have to congratulate them, because he’s doing a good job.”
Kylian Mbappe has now scored 24 goals in the Spanish La Liga, seven in the Champions League, two in the Copa del Rey, and one apiece in the Super Copa, and in the UEFA Super Cup respectively.
He is now the first player to reach 40 goal contributions in his debut season for Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
The victory moved Real Madrid to four points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race ahead of the Classico clash next weekend at the Nou Camp.
